Mother’s Day

Sunday was Mother’s Day in Australia. That is the same as in my birth country.  A mother is very important to every family. For example, my mother gave up a lot of things for me.
In the past, she not only took care of me, but also my father, her mother and her mother in law. I think my mother is a great woman. She is the most important teacher in my life. No matter where I go or when I have problems I can always ask her. I always give flowers to her to celebrate Mother’s Day. Although I’m not at home these days, I often call her to express my love.

Clean Up Australia Day

The aim of Clean Up Australia Day is to encourage people to clean up their local areas. The idea was borne out of an Australian Bicentenary event. It was put forward by Ian Kiernan. The first Clean Up Australia Day was held in January 1989.

Evermore, It is held on the first Sunday of March every year. The key dates for Clean Up Australia Day 2013 are Community Clean Up Day on Sunday 3rd March 2013, Schools Clean Up Day on Friday 1st March 2013, Business Clean Up Day on Tuesday 26th February 2013. If you want you can join it. According to this webside http://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/?gclid=CJC08Kv94bUCFYRgpQod-lsATA you can choose a site where you want and volunteer to clean it. On Sunday morning, on my way to church I saw some volunteers to pick bottles, papers, rubbish into the big bag. According to statistics,it is about 550,300 volunteers joined the clean up efforts at 7341 sites around Australia on Sunday. NSW volunteers collected an estimated 6470 tonnes of rubbish. Thanks to these volunters we could have a good environment. But I think we need to take more responsibility for our local environment every day of the year. I hope I can be a volunteer on Clean Up Australia Day 2014.

To get fluent faster, read everything!

The theme in this video is to tell people "To get fluent fast, read everything". And then he tell us how to get fluent in English faster.

In order to study by yourself, you need to improve you reading ability. Firstly, look around for English in your everyday environment. Try to read all of the English words and phrases you see every day. Secondly, try to see how letters can be expressed in different fonts. Practicing reading different words in English, and practice reading them in different fonts ,such as cursive and script writing.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day comes from western culture. It contains vestiges of both Christian and Roman traditions. There are many different histores of Valentine's Day. One of the stories from the Catholic Church considers that Valentine's Day is a day to commemorate the saints who were martyred. Because of his sympathetic, heroic and--most importantly--romantic figure, Valentine became one of the most popular saints in English and France in the Middle Ages. Other stories believe that it is to commemorate the anniversary of Valentine's death or burial--which probably occurred around A.D.270--others claim that the Christian church may have decided to place St.Valentine's feast day in the middle of February in an effort to "Christianize" the pagan celebration of Lupercalia.

Valentine's Day is a romantic day. Although Valentine's Day comes from western culture, most people all over the world celebrate it on 14 February. In my country, more and more young people celebrate it in their own way. Boys and girls give one another thoughtful little presents like chocolate, flowers, dolls and so on. Some lovers go to see a romantic film and then they have a romantic dinner. Nowadays, many young people choose Valentine's Day to confess, propose or get married  to commemorate their love. For me, the most romantic Valentine's Day I have had was at university when the whole school gathered together in the playground to release lanterns. When  hand in hand we held the lanterns at the same time we felt happiness and surprise. When the lanterns were floating in the sky it stood for love and blesssing.

Valentine's Day is just a day to give lovers a chance to express love and affection. I think if you love each other, everyday is Valentine's Day!

New Life

   G'day all.
   Welcome to my blogger.
I am Christina. All of my family is Catholic , so I chose Christina as my English name. I come from China. I have been  in Australia 6 months. For me , everything is new. I like the air, the sky, the sea that is in Australia. The scenery in Australia is very beautiful. The architectural style is different from China. The Chinese traditional architecture gives you a kind of mysterious and solemn. Due to the overgrowth of population ,most of modern Chinese architecture is tall buildings. It gives you a pressure. But Australian architecture makes you feel leisure and comfortable. Not only architectural but also many things are different between China and Australia. Australia contains people who come from different countries . It contains different culture, background, habit and so on.
In order to live in Australia I need to improve my English and learn the culture of Australia. I need to work hard and meet those challenges. Although I feel confused and lost , rely on  God everything will better. I think it is a new beginning for me.
